MIRI (March 24): A total of 122 golfers participated in the Borneo Evangelical Mission (BEM) Kota Padawan Charity Golf tournament ‘Swing for Charity’ on Monday in Kota Padawan, Kuching.
Among those present was Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala.
In his brief address, Gerawat said the tournament not only strengthened fellowship among church members and community at large but also served as an effective platform to mobilise charitable efforts and promote community development.
“Funds raised from the tournament would be utilised to upgrade the church’s audio-visual system, implement the Youth Centre project and support outreach programmes in rural areas,” he revealed.
Gerawat also commended organisers for their commitment and dedication in ensuring the success of the event.
Meanwhile, Pastor Billy Quick, who is also one of the pastors at BEM Kota Padawan, said the encouraging response and contributions received through the tournament reflected the public’s concern for the development and needs of the church.
“Events such as Swing for Charity provide a meaningful avenue for the public to contribute and we hope that the initiative would have a positive impact on church development, empower youths through the Youth Centre project, and help expand community outreach efforts to rural areas,” he added.
