SIMANGGANG: A momentous celebration unfolded at the Sri Aman Civic Hall, commemorating the 160th anniversary of St Luke’s Church on Thursday (Dec 28).
The event, graced by the Bishop of Kuching and Brunei Darussalam, Rt Rev Datuk Danald Jute, and his spouse, welcomed esteemed contributors who added significance to the occasion.
With approximately 1,000 attendees gathered, the highlight of the ceremony was the announcement of generous financial support for the church by the participating representatives.
Present at the event, Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, who is also the Simanggang assemblyman, demonstrated commitment with a substantial contribution of RM50,000.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Snowdan Lawan, who serves as Balai Ringin assemblyman, added to the support with a generous sum of RM30,000.
Additionally, Sri Aman MP Datuk Seri Doris Sophia Brodie contributed RM30,000 to the cause.
The programme, a tribute to St Luke’s Church’s 160-year legacy, delved into historical milestones spanning the British and Japanese eras to the present Malaysian government.
Reflecting on the event, Rt Rev Danald extended heartfelt congratulations to the organisers, the St Luke’s Church Committee, and the Sri Aman Divisional Office for orchestrating a successful commemoration that blended history, community, and generosity.
Also present were Harden’s wife Datin Simba Nalang; Snowdan’s wife Datin Melinda Claudia Bucking-Lawan; and Doris’ husband Dr William Chua.
