GTK of SMK Oya shines in art & cultural events

MUKAH: The Kris Theatre Group (GTK) of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Oya hosted a special Dekon Aura Merdeka performance and became the crew members for the Opening Ceremony Gimmick during the 11th Teluk Dialogue Program at Dynasty Hotel Miri here, recently.

In the performance, GTK introduced Batik Canting featuring Iban and Melanau designs, an idea by SMK Oya’s Excellent Teacher of Art and Visual Education (PSV), Leonard Darimi.

Additionally, GTK was also entrusted as the crew for the Launch of Books by North Sarawak Writers Association (PUTERA) writers during the program’s opening night.

GTK coordinator, Juni Nor said both events they participated in were the highest invitation for GTK since its establishment two decades ago.

“This proves that GTK is well known and being exposed to art and cultural-themed events with reputable external parties.

“At the same time, it responds to the Ministry of Education’s (KPM) call for the elements of ‘love, respect, happiness, and humanity’ (LR2H) in education, thereby enhancing the self-identity and student achievement,” she said in a statement.

For the record, the GTK of SMK Oya comprises Anniesha Boniface, Brinstan Rolin Klabu, Jason Eri, Wesey Menjawi, and Goh Kok Siong, along with accompanying teacher Rohaya Hamidun.
