BETONG, 3 Oct: Efforts to address the problem of stunted growth or stunting among children should be undertaken from an early stage in order to ensure that future generations of Sarawak grow up healthy, competitive and able to contribute to the development of the country.

Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Development, Sarawak, Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu said that the monitoring of children's health and development should be given attention from an early age as the formation of human capital starts with a healthy and quality generation.

"Human capital is our son will be the human capital not the driver of Sarawak for Malaysia if we are healthy, if we are competitive if we are smart, if we are smart this will give what to a special market for all of us in Malaysia and if more, If you're good at going to the University of Malaya, it's more important to go to the best university in Malaya like I said before".

He said this while addressing the UM Stunting Kit Launch Council as a result of strategic cooperation with the University of Malaya (UM) in Rentap, Betong, today.

According to him, early detection of delayed growth problems allows for the physical developmental and potential aspects of children to be monitored and given constant attention.

He said the approach was also important to ensure that children's nutritional and developmental needs could be identified and addressed early.

In this regard, UM Stunting Kit was introduced as a more systematic and easy-to-use facility for monitoring children's nutrition and physical development by parents at home.

The initiative also gives parents the space to play a more active role in monitoring their child's development, thus raising awareness of nutrition and growth from an early age.

The council received an encouraging reception with the attendance of 170 participants consisting of families and children from long houses around Concrete Division.
