MIRI (April 5): The implementation of work-from-home (WFH) arrangements by the government is a strategic measure aimed at reducing daily living costs and fuel consumption, particularly amid ongoing global economic uncertainties and conflicts.
Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Hasbi Habibollah said the initiative ensures continuity of operations without compromising productivity, while also contributing to lower fuel usage and sustainable energy management in light of tensions in West Asia.
He noted that WFH directives have already been introduced at the ministry level, and possibly in Sarawak, to minimise the need for daily commuting.
“Similar practices are also being adopted in Asean countries, and this trend is being observed globally,” he said when officiating at a Hari Raya gathering organised by the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) of Kampung Patiambun on Friday night.
Hasbi, who is Limbang MP, urged the public to be prepared for rising prices of goods, attributing this to global conflicts in West Asia, which have disrupted supply chains and driven up global fuel prices.
“Although the conflict is far from Malaysia, the surge in global crude oil prices has had a ripple effect on the global economy, including our country,” he said.
On another note, Hasbi emphasised the importance of maintaining unity and harmony within society.
He said such unity must be nurtured at the grassroots level among communities and neighbours, and upheld at the district, state and national levels.
He added that the spirit of Hari Raya provides an ideal platform to strengthen ties and foster mutual understanding and forgiveness among people of diverse religions and cultural backgrounds.
Also present were Limbang district officer Sulaiman Engal, Limbang Division unity officer Suriani Yussop, Pemanca Sahat Bagol, Penghulu Ahmad Mail, and JKKK Kampung Patiambun chairman Najib Osman.
