Hipmau FC of Sarawak lift Kirin Cup ahead of New Year

KUCHING (Jan 28): Hipmau FC of Sarawak emerged as the new champions of the Chinese Lunar New Year Kirin Cup football championship at Cascara Arena Stadium last Sunday.

It was the fifth edition of the annual tournament featuring eight teams from Singapore and Malaysia to promote sporting exchange among the Chinese community across the region.

The host team edged PJLFC of Selangor 2-1 in the final. Prizes were given out the dinner at a local restaurant officiated by Deputy Sarawak Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian’s representative Kho Teck Wan who is political secretary to the Sarawak Premier.

Old Madrid FC of Pahang beat 2024 champion Islanders FC 3-1 for third place. The Plate final was won by Xin Hua FC from Singapore who edged Beluga FC of Kuala Lumpur. Perak Chinese Veteran finished third.

A highlight of this year’s tournament was the introduction of a veteran category for players aged 40 to 50 and above. Beyond the football competition, cultural activities were carried out to foster interaction among players, officials and spectators to celebrate unity and togetherness ahead of the Lunar New Year.
