Bringing everyday moments into focus

Having a camera on our phones was something unimaginable decades ago. Today, it has become an essential tool. In the era of digitalisation, visuals play an important role, making it equally important to have a camera that performs at its best.

However, good camera performance and specifications are only part of the equation. A phone’s build quality and functionality also need to keep up with the demands of everyday use.

So, when I had the chance to try out the HONOR 600 Pro, I was impressed by its ability to keep up with my daily needs — even more so as someone who has been an HONOR user for a decade.

Coupled with AI-powered functions, the latest HONOR 600 Pro offers plenty to explore.

A camera that sees beyond the obvious

For me, this is where the HONOR 600 Pro gets interesting. Its camera setup is clearly designed for more than just point-and-shoot photography.

At its heart is a 200MP Super Sensing Main Camera with a large 1/1.4-inch sensor and CIPA 6.0 optical image stabilisation (OIS), paired with a 50MP telephoto camera offering up to 120x zoom. There is also a 12MP ultra-wide and macro camera, giving users more flexibility when moving between landscapes, close-ups and distant subjects.

On paper, those numbers are impressive. But specifications are one thing — seeing how they translate into actual photographs is another.

The 200MP main camera is particularly useful when shooting in changing lighting conditions. HONOR says the larger sensor delivers a 24 per cent increase in light sensitivity while its Night Engine is designed to improve clarity in night scenes.

The combination of optical stabilisation and computational photography means handheld shots are less likely to end up blurred, particularly when shooting in low light.

Then there is the telephoto camera. Having a dedicated 50MP telephoto camera with CIPA 6.5 stabilisation and up to 120x zoom gives the 600 Pro another level of versatility.

It is the sort of feature that makes you look twice at something in the distance and think, “Let me see if I can get that.”

Of course, 120x is not something I would use for every photograph. But for subjects that are physically out of reach — architecture, wildlife or even details that the naked eye may struggle to pick out — having that extra reach can make a difference.

AI Super Zoom 2.0 also kicks in from 7x zoom to help improve image quality as magnification increases.

What I found more interesting, however, is how much of the work happens behind the scenes.

The HONOR 600 Pro comes with an AI Colour Engine that uses a colour temperature sensor and a 360-degree automatic white balance system to produce more realistic colours. There is also AI Enhanced Night Photography, which automatically optimises low-light photography across a 0.6x to 10x zoom range.

For someone who takes photographs to document moments rather than simply collect pretty pictures, these features matter.

A good camera should not make you think too much about the camera itself. It should allow you to concentrate on what is in front of you — whether that is a person, a place, an unexpected moment or something you simply do not want to forget.

And that, perhaps, is where the HONOR 600 Pro’s camera system makes the strongest impression. It is not merely trying to put more megapixels into a phone. It is giving users more freedom to decide how they want to tell the story in front of the lens.

How this translates into my work

As a feature writer, the camera of the HONOR 600 Pro fits naturally into the way I work. Since visuals are an important part of my work, having a capable phone camera is essential.

The AI button, which doubles as a shutter button, makes it easier for me to capture moments swiftly and precisely, especially when I need to get the shot quickly.

Some days, I may be capturing the fleeting movements of a Chinese opera performance, while on others, I may need a quick portrait of an interviewee. It is in these moments that I appreciate having a phone camera that can keep up with me.

As someone who writes about people and their stories, I see photography as more than simply producing a visually pleasing image. A photograph can preserve a fleeting expression, capture the atmosphere of a place or provide a visual glimpse into a story that words alone may not fully convey.

That is why having a camera that is responsive, versatile and easy to use matters to me. The HONOR 600 Pro allows me to capture those moments, sometimes before they disappear.
