KUCHING (March 28): Lubok Antu is among 14 areas nationwide currently placed under Level 1 (alert) status for hot weather, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said.
In a statement issued at 4pm today, MetMalaysia explained that Level 1 (alert) indicates daily maximum temperatures in the affected areas have ranged between 35°C and 37°C for at least three consecutive days.
Apart from Lubok Antu, the other areas under Level 1 include Perlis; Padang Terap, Kubang Pasu, Pulau Langkawi, Kuala Muda, Kulim, Sik, Baling and Bandar Baharu in Kedah; the northern district of Penang; and Kinta, Kuala Kangsar and Perak Tengah in Perak.
Meanwhile, four areas in Kedah — Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Pendang and Baling — are experiencing Level 2 heatwave conditions.
MetMalaysia defines Level 2 as daily maximum temperatures exceeding 37°C to 40°C for at least three consecutive days.
