KUCHING, Dec 20: The Hong Seng Lee (HSL) Samarahan Marathon is set to return on May 17, 2026, in partnership with City Joggers Club Kuching (CJC), promising affordable entry fees for participants.
HSL marketing communications lead Abraham Tiong said the company is subsidising about 15 per cent to 25 per cent per runner, depending on the category, to keep fees low and encourage more people to join in 2026.
“For 2026, our goal is to make it more affordable. The subsidy is under our own ‘Healthy Bodies, Happy Minds’ CSR programme. I encourage everyone to sign up early and enjoy the early-bird rates,” he said in a statement.
For the Half Marathon category, early-bird rates start from RM95 as registration runs from December 20, 2025, to January 20, 2026.
Besides that, fees during this period are RM75 for the 10km, RM50 for the 6km, and RM40 for the 3km.
Tiong explained that the actual cost per runner is almost RM120, which covers event and finisher tees, medals, drinks, food, goodie bags, and other essentials.
Organising costs such as route marshals, first aiders, ambulance rental, student volunteers, prize money, and safety personnel are also included.
He said the 42km full marathon will not be included in this year’s HSL due to safety concerns, but is expected to return in 2027 with a new route crossing the Sejingkat Bridge.
The 3km and 6km routes will take place within La Promenade’s gated community, while the 10km and 21km routes will head towards scenic Tanjong Bako Road and back.
Tiong further said that the marathon offers a quick, easy-to-run route that is suitable for every level.
Meanwhile, ‘Retro Games”’ has been unveiled as the theme for the 2026 running festival, with unique medal designs, T-shirts and official merchandise set to be revealed in January.
“Think classic Nintendo and Sega games, blended with 2026’s Chinese zodiac animal—the horse. Our tees, medals and more will be collector items, I’m sure,” he said.
He also added that HSL will collaborate again with Citadines Kuching and Rume Hotel to provide free transport for participants to the starting line.
