ADVERTISE HERE
KUCHING: In a case marked by jealousy and violence, Sebastian Freddy Tan, a 32-year-old unemployed man, was sentenced today (Dec 12) for assaulting and threatening his wife.
The Magistrate Court here found him guilty of causing intentional injury and issuing death threats.
Driven by suspicions of infidelity, Sebastian’s actions escalated to a harrowing point where he not only injured his 31-year-old wife but also threatened a tragic joint demise. These events occurred in their rented house in Jalan Sekama on Dec 9.
Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan sentenced Sebastian to four months in prison and imposed a RM1,500 fine. If the fine is unpaid, it will result in an additional three months of imprisonment.
Sebastian, who pleaded guilty, faced two charges under Sections 323 and 506 of the Penal Code, the latter charge compounded with Section 326A.
The incident unfolded early in the morning when Sebastian discovered WhatsApp messages between his wife and another man. In a fit of rage, he punched her in the face and shoulder, causing visible bruises.
He also menacingly stated, “I’ll kill you later so we both die together.”
Fearing for her life, his wife promptly reported the incident to the police, leading to Sebastian’s arrest on the same day.
Further investigations revealed that Sebastian had tested positive for Amphetamine and Methamphetamine.
Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted the case. Sebastian was unrepresented by counsel during the trial.
