KUCHING (Feb 23): Police arrested two ‘mat rempit’ or illegal street racers during ‘Op Samseng Jalanan’ which began at 11pm on Sunday.
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the operation, which ran until 3am on Monday, covered Jalan Astana, Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yakub, Jalan Tun Salahuddin, Jalan Gersik, and Masja.
He said the operation sought to curb road bullying activities and ensure compliance with traffic laws and regulations.
“Two local males, aged 17 and 20, were arrested, with their respective motorcycles also impounded.
“They allegedly committed offences under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said in a statement.
Alexson said 28 summonses were also issued for various traffic offences during the operation.
