KUCHING (Jan 29): The latest Sarawak Immigration Department enforcement operation has seen 42 foreigners detained on suspicion of various immigration offences.
In a statement, the department said the operation on Tuesday and Wednesday targeted a factory in Kampung Sandong, rented houses in Kampung Kudei, workers’ quarters at a Matang construction site, as well as several food premises in Kampung Gita.
Some of the premises inspected were also suspected of being involved in online gambling.
“Although there were attempts by the foreigners involved to escape and hide to avoid inspection, the quick actions and efficiency of the enforcement officers succeeded in thwarting the attempt,” said the department.
A total of 31 enforcement officers took part in the operation.
The department added enforcement operations will continue to be intensified to ensure compliance with immigration laws and ensure safety and public order.
