KUCHING (Feb 25): The Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) has detained 54 foreign nationals during an integrated enforcement operation carried out around Kota Samarahan from Feb 23 to Feb 24.
JIM Sarawak, in a statement, said the operation, conducted by the Kuching Immigration Enforcement Division, was based on public tip-offs and preliminary intelligence gathered by enforcement authorities.
“A total of 26 immigration officers were deployed, targeting several identified locations within the area.
“Among the locations raided were rented premises around the Aiman Mall Commercial Centre, Bandar Riyal Commercial Centre, Uni Garden Business Centre, rental rooms at Taman Riveria, and several residences in Kampung Sindang.
“Also raided were premises suspected of operating online gambling activities disguised as food outlets,” the statement read.
All individuals detained are believed to have committed various offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63.
“They were subsequently taken to an immigration detention depot for further investigation and follow-up action,” it added.
The department reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying enforcement operations to curb the presence of foreign nationals who violate immigration laws in the state.
