KUCHING (April 2): The Sessions Court here has sentenced an Indonesian man to nine years’ imprisonment and three strokes of the cane for living on the earnings of prostitution from two foreign women at a spa here.
Judge Noorhisham Mohd Jaafar convicted Eko, 34, on his own guilty plea to a charge framed under Section 372A(1) of the Penal Code.
The offence carries a penalty of up to 15 years’ imprisonment and caning, as well as a possible fine.
The court ordered the prison sentence to take effect from the date of his arrest on March 23, 2026.
Based on the facts of the case, a police team raided the spa at 2.15pm on March 23 and arrested Eko together with the foreign women.
They also seized one condom, lubricant, a bath towel, and RM300.
The investigation revealed that Eko had entered Sarawak through the Tebedu entry point using a social visit pass and had been working at the premises since February this year as a caretaker and cleaner.
He was found to have brought customers to female workers, managed payments before handing them over to his employer, and supplied condoms to the women if customers agreed to use their services.
He also received a monthly salary of RM1,100.
In the same courtroom, Eko also pleaded guilty to a separate charge of overstaying in Sarawak for seven days after the expiry of his visit pass on Feb 14, 2026.
For that offence, he was sentenced to four months’ imprisonment with the jail term also ordered to run from the date of his arrest.
The offence was framed under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and punishable under Section 15(4) of the same Act.
The court further ordered that he be referred to the Immigration Department after serving his sentences.
The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Ruvinasini Pandian while Eko was unrepresented.
