JAKARTA, 16 Oct: AirBorneo Airways, a Sarawak-owned airline, makes Jakarta the starting gateway to explore the Indonesian market estimated to involve about 100,000 passengers annually.

Its Chief Executive Officer, Megat Ardian Wira Mohd Aminuddin said that the Kuching-Jakarta direct route is expected to be launched this month, thus becoming the international route of the two airlines after Kuching-Singapore.

He said AirBorneo aims to attract passengers who are now using existing flight services, as well as stimulate new demand through capacity additions and full service offerings, including business class.

"With more capacity in the market, we also offer full-service products. There are business-class markets that also want to use AirBorneo's services", he said at a media roundtable session here on Friday.

Megat Ardian said Kuching-Jakarta service in the early stages will use two jets before its jet fleet expands to five aircraft by early next year.

According to him, the Indonesian market has potential among various passenger segments, including business and government travelers, health tourists, holiday tourists as well as those visiting families and contacts.

He said other destinations in Indonesia could potentially be considered in the future depending on the development of operations and passenger demand.
