KUALA LUMPUR, 17 September: A total of 28 areas across the country have registered air pollution index (IPU) readings at unhealthy levels as of 9.45 this morning.
According to the Malaysian Air Pollution Index Management System (APIMS) portal, five areas in Perak recorded unhealthy readings namely Tasek, Ipoh (182); Manjung Series (180); Pegoh, Ipoh (160); Taiping (157) and Tanjung Malim (154).
In Penang, four areas recorded unhealthy readings namely Seberang Jaya (156), Minden (156), Seberang Perai (154) and Balik Pulau (110), while in Selangor also included four areas namely Johan Setia (157), Shah Alam (154), Banting (144) and Petaling Jaya (135).
In the capital, unhealthy readings were recorded in Cheras (157) and Batu Muda (155), while in Putrajaya (157) as well as Negeri Sembilan involve Value (157) and Seremban (151).
Melaka also recorded three areas at an unhealthy level namely in Bukit Rambai (148), the City of Melaka (133) and Alor Gajah (111), while in Johor involving Batu Pahat (152) and Kluang (144) as well as Sungai Petani (160) and Kulim Hi-Tech (132) in Kedah.
Meanwhile, three other states respectively recorded one unhealthy area namely Terengganu including Kuala Terengganu (153); Jerantut, Pahang (152); and Kuching, Sarawak with a reading of 109.
Additionally, 32 regions across the country have moderate readings while eight regions have good readings.
IPU readings of zero to 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 (simple), 101 to 200 (unhealthy), 201 to 300 (very unhealthy) and 301 upwards (dangerous).-TVS
