KUCHING, 17 Sept: The Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) now has a new loot storage facility in Kuching worth RM9.98 million to ensure the loot is stored more securely, systematically and controlled.

Minister of Public Works, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said that the development of the store is a strategic investment by the Government of MADANI in supporting JKDM enforcement operations.

According to him, the increased success of enforcement operations also contributed to an increase in the number of detention and looting items that needed to be handled, thus requiring appropriate storage facilities.

"With the availability of these Government-owned facilities, dependence on rental premises can be reduced, thus helping to optimize government spending in the long run", he said.

He said this while addressing the Conclusion Meeting of the Customs Enforcement Office Stores Construction Project, here today.

Commenting further, Nanta said the store not only provides storage space but also has special facilities including a lock room to house certain items seized by Customs.

"This store is important, not a regular store. The store was used to store loot", he said after the ceremony.

He said the new facility allows loot to be organized more systematically and placed according to their storage needs.

The council also witnessed the ceremony of signing project submission documents between contractors with Public Works Department (JKR) and representatives of Ministry of Finance as clients of the project.

It was also symbolically followed by the handover of a replica key to the stor building to the parties concerned.

In attendance, the Minister of Women, Family and Community Development included MP Santubong, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri as well as senior officials from Ministry of Public Works, Ministry of Finance, JKR and JKDM. - TVS
