JOHOR BARU: Johor is ready to collaborate with the Federal Government to expand the state’s Unity Ambassador programme throughout the country, says Ling Tian Soon.

The Johor health and unity committee chairman said the National Unity Ministry was welcome to adopt the state’s model in other states to better promote unity among the people.

“Since the programme’s inception in 2022, more than 300 youths, mostly university students, have been appointed unity ambassadors of Johor.

“They are tasked to promote unity and foster better ties among the community through meaningful activities such as sports, agriculture and cultural performances.

“The appointed youths, aged 18 to 25, were given the necessary training to also spread the Bangsa Johor spirit that our state is known for,” he said in a press conference after handing out appointment letters to 157 new unity ambassadors here on Saturday (Jan 13).

The event, which was also attended by National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, also saw the launch of a coffee table book about Johor’s unity ambassadors.

Ling was the official representative of Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi at the event.

He added that he had previously brought the programme’s working paper into a meeting with the minister as well as Sabah and Sarawak unity minister and unity excos from other states.

He said he understood that the ministry was studying the matter to look at ways to introduce a similar programme in the other states in Malaysia.

The Unity Ambassador programme would also be adopted by the Melaka government after their excos paid a visit to Johor and learned about the programme recently, he added.
