Joint blood donation campaign on Jan 7

MIRI: Inner Wheel Club (IWC) Miri is co-organising the blood donation campaign with Rotary Club of Miri Oil Town, in collaboration with the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC), Miri Blood Donor Recruitment Committee and the Miri Hospital Blood Bank at MYY Mall shopping complex, Lutong on Jan 7.

Co-organising chairman and IWC Miri president, Cecilia Sman urged eligible healthy body persons in and around the city to come and support the event, starting from 9.30 am to 1 pm, at the ground floor (Event Hall) of the shopping complex.

It is held in conjunction with the New Year 2024 celebration and as community service project to help the blood bank and MRC’s goal to maintain enough stock of blood and to help save lives of patients needing blood transfusion.

“For IWC Miri, its part of Inner Wheel District 331 (Sabah and Sarawak) collective efforts to celebrate International Inner Wheel Day which falls on January 10, 2024 – the 100 years of its formation. On this day, several clubs in the IWD331 will hold blood donation simultaneously,” she said in a joint press statement with MRC Miri Chapter blood donor recruitment committee chairman Karambir Singh after a joint meeting for the blood donation campaign.

Also present at the event were IWC Miri secretary, Caroline Siburat and other members of the MRC Miri Chapter Blood donor recruitment committee.

Cecilia added IWC Miri is happy that Rotary Club of Miri Oil Town could jointly organised the event in collaboration the MRC and the Miri Blood Bank, where the first 100 successful donors will receive goody bags.

Meanwhile Karambir thanked the two clubs for co-organising the campaign, and also the MYY Mall shopping complex for providing the venue and facilities while staff of the Miri Blood bank will administer the blood donation process.

“We are calling for support from existing and new donors to come forward and contribute to this noble lifesaving cause. We are expecting not less than 50 pints of blood from the donors this Sunday,” he said.
