KUCHING: National Muay Thai champion Muhamad Johan “Jojo” Ghazali Zulfikar said his recent defeat at the ONE Championship 167 to Vietnam’s Nguyen Tran Duy Nhat served as a motivation for his training and future fights.
He said he had put in all effort into preparing for the previous bout.
“I trained hard, ate well, and maintained my weight perfectly, but in the world of Muay Thai, there’s always more to it.
“Despite the setback, as usual, I will go back, train again, and work on what needs to be improved.
“God willing, in the next fight, Jojo will come back stronger, for sure,” he said to reporters when met at the Kuching International Airport (KIA) after returning from Bangkok, Monday night (June 10).
When asked about potential changes in his training routine, Jojo said there would be adjustments.
“Of course, after every fight, there are things that need improvement. Every fight is a new experience, and for the next one, I will review the last match and work on what needs fixing.”
Regarding his next fight, Jojo indicated that it might be around September but couldn’t confirm the exact date.
“I’m not sure yet. I think it might be in September or October.”
As for the location of the next bout, Jojo said the official announcement has yet to be made.
“I want to thank everyone who supported me. I was shocked because, during the bout, many were behind me, and I’m proud. Thank you to them.”
In terms of participating in the Malaysia Games (Sukma), Jojo said he would provide the opportunity to new fighters.
