SEMATAN, 13 Sept: Sarawak Department of Marine Fisheries (JPLS) held the Mini Retreat Meeting JPLS 2026 at Sematan Regional Fisheries Office today, to elaborate on planning and assess current issues related to fisheries management.
The meeting served as a platform for JPLS to align the department's direction in ensuring that fisheries resource management remains relevant to current developments and needs.
According to the statement of JPLS, among the main agendas were presentation sessions by the Fisheries Resources Branch as well as the Policy and Strategic Planning Branch.
"The discussion also focused on the review of Fisheries (Latin) Regulations (Sarawak) 1976 and the JPLS Non-Return Asset Management Master Plan.
"Sharing of the rules is seen as important to ensure that aspects of management and control over fisheries resources can be implemented in line with current developments", the statement said.
At the same time, JPLS's Master Plan of Non-replaceable Asset Management was discussed to ensure that departmental asset planning and management were implemented in a more orderly and strategic manner.
JPLS Executive Director, Abdul Rahman Abdul Wahab also outlined the direction and aspirations of the department as a guide to workers in carrying out their respective planning and responsibilities.
The meeting also emphasised the importance of clear planning, regular resource management and responsive implementation of tasks to changes in the fisheries sector.
JPLS is committed to ensuring the direction of fisheries management in Sarawak continues to be strengthened through strategic planning and continuous improvement.
