KABONG (Dec 10): A habitual criminal was arrested by police for threatening his stepsister and attempting to assault his stepfather at the family’s house in Kampung Kabong.

Saratok police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said the 38-year-old suspect was detained following a report filed by the 63-year-old stepfather on Dec 6.

“In the incident, the suspect flew into a rage due to dissatisfaction over family financial matters, causing the victim and his wife to flee.

“When the victim returned to the house later with a grandchild to retrieve his belongings, the suspect tried to attack him with a wooden stick,” he said in a statement.

Mathew said following his arrest, the suspect admitted to being under the influence of alcohol at the time, and also led police to the recovery of a meat cleaver and wooden stick used during the incident.

“The suspect also admitted to having made death threats against his stepsister during the incident,” he added.

Background checks found the suspect possessed seven prior criminal records for drugs, criminal intimidation, and housebreaking.

According to Mathew, the suspect was paroled from Sri Aman Prison on May 30 this year and is under supervised release until Dec 18.

The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
