Auditions for the Korean film ‘Distinct: Becoming Sarawak’ will be held in Kuala Lumpur and Kuching this month.

KUCHING (April 7): The upcoming Korean feature film ‘Distinct: Becoming Sarawak’ will hold nationwide open auditions in Malaysia this April, with sessions scheduled in Kuala Lumpur and Kuching.

The auditions will take place on Apr 8 in Kuala Lumpur and Apr 9 in Kuching, marking a key milestone in the film’s pre-production phase.

In Kuala Lumpur, the session will be held at The MET Corporate Towers, Level 9, Filipo Ristorante Cigar Room, while the Kuching audition will take place at Northbank Club, The Game Room.
Both sessions will run from 9am to 5pm.

The film is an international collaboration between Korean production company Monster Factory and Malaysian production company The Black Label, and will be filmed across Malaysia.

Producer Lee Sang Chan said the project is more than just an overseas production.

“This is a Korean film created by Korean filmmakers and actors, but its story begins in a very special place called Sarawak,” he said, adding that the project marks the beginning of a long-term collaboration to produce more Korean films and dramas in Malaysia.

Lee said key members of the Korean production team will be present during the auditions, including director Shin Ji Hwan, acting coach Yeum Dong Jin and writer Park Ho Young.

Yeum, who is known in Korea for training top actors, is scheduled to arrive in Malaysia on Apr 6, while Shin and Park are expected to arrive on Apr 7.

The film, a romantic comedy, follows the journey of Joon, a Korean exchange student who arrives in Sarawak and experiences its cultures, friendships and relationships.

The auditions will focus on casting key supporting roles and discovering local talent, and are open to new talents, students and performers with no prior acting experience required.

Selected candidates will have the opportunity to work with Korean filmmakers and actors as part of the production.

Principal photography is scheduled to begin in Sarawak this June, positioning the state as both a filming location and a central narrative setting.

The project is also expected to boost Malaysia’s international visibility while supporting the growth of the tourism and creative industries.
