LIMBANG, May 23: Limbang Hospital urgently requires an estimated RM7 million to upgrade its operating theatre facilities to ensure surgical services can continue effectively while awaiting the completion of a new hospital.

Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said the operating theatre is the hospital’s most pressing concern, with funding currently being sought from the Sarawak government for the necessary upgrade works.

“We are now looking for funds to upgrade the operating theatre before the new hospital is completed.

“The main issue is the operating theatre, and we are requesting an allocation from the Sarawak government to upgrade the operating theatre at Limbang Hospital at an estimated cost of RM7 million.

“With these facilities in place, surgical services can be carried out in Limbang,” he said when officiating the Heart Failure Update 2026 programme for Limbang Division held at the Mini Auditorium of the Limbang District Education Excellence Centre, as reported by TVS today.

Dr Abdul Rahman also urged medical practitioners at Limbang Hospital to continue strengthening their knowledge on diseases that are becoming increasingly concerning in the district.

He said conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, heart failure and infectious diseases require serious and sustained attention.

He also encouraged the organisation of more courses and seminars on these diseases to further enhance healthcare delivery to the community.

Among those present were Limbang Hospital representative Dr Chong Wun Khang and psychiatrist Dr Son Wei Da.— DayakDaily
