KUCHING, Oct 5: A kick-off meeting and dialogue session for the Stampin Resettlement Scheme Flood Mitigation Project was held to ensure all parties involved clearly understood the project scope, implementation requirements, responsibilities, and expected outcomes from the outset, with community engagement as an integral part of the project.
In a press release, Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap, who chaired the meeting and dialogue session, said that the RM87 million project is an important infrastructure initiative aimed at addressing flood-related concerns and strengthening flood mitigation measures within the Stampin Resettlement Scheme.
The programme involved the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), consultants, the contractor, and local community representatives.
“A project of this scale requires close coordination between DID, the consultants, the contractor, and the local community.
“We must ensure that the project is properly implemented, that technical requirements are complied with, and that the concerns of residents are taken into consideration throughout the construction period,” he said.
He stressed that community engagement must be an integral part of the project, particularly for a flood mitigation project that directly affects residents and their daily lives.
The dialogue session also allowed residents and community representatives to raise concerns, seek clarification, and provide feedback directly to the implementing agencies, consultants, and contractor.
Yap emphasised that the focus must ultimately remain on effective delivery and tangible results for the people.
“For the residents of Stampin Resettlement Scheme, this is not merely an infrastructure project. It is about reducing the risk of flooding, protecting homes and property, and providing greater peace of mind for families living here.”
He further called on all parties to maintain open communication and to promptly address any issues that may arise during implementation.
“As the elected representative for Kota Sentosa, I will continue to follow up closely with the relevant agencies to ensure that this RM87 million project is delivered properly and brings the intended benefits to our residents,” Yap said. — DayakDaily
