MIRI, March 25: The Enforcement Division of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Miri Branch raided a private vehicle and discovered a modified tank suspected to be used for illegal storage of diesel fuel.
According to a statement posted on its social media today, initial inspection revealed the vehicle was filling controlled goods, prompting officers to take further action.
The vehicle has been seized, and a case has been filed against the owner under Section 20(1) of the Supply Control Act 1961, read together with Section 21 of the same Act.
If convicted, individuals may face fines of up to RM1 million or imprisonment of up to three years, with higher penalties for repeat offences. Companies could face fines of up to RM2 million, rising to RM5 million for subsequent offences.
KPDN Miri has warned that selling fuel into containers other than a vehicle’s original tank, exceeding 20 litres without a valid permit, is a serious offence and will be dealt with strictly under the law.
