KUCHING (Oct 6): Rotary Club of Kuching Central and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Sarawak have embarked on the ‘Gift of Education’ literacy project.

With its aim to improve teaching and learning of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects, a dedicated team from UiTM has been tasked to conduct a thorough analysis for the setting up of STEM labs at the selected primary schools.

Led by Prof Dr Ling Siew Eng from the College of Computing, Informatics and Mathematics of UiTM, STEM labs equipped with teaching and learning aids will be set up at the selected schools namely SJK(C) Sungai Apong, SK Sungai Stutong, and SK Pangkalan Kuap.

“Our analysis aims to align teaching tools with the curriculum to ensure that educators have the best possible resources to inspire and engage their students,” said Dr Ling.

“This initiative is part of UiTM’s social responsibility to advance educational standards and foster a robust learning environment in Malaysia, particularly in the STEM fields, which are crucial for the country’s development,” she said.

The team, she added, will also provide training sessions for teachers to equip them with the skills to utilise these tools effectively in their classrooms and they will evaluate the effectiveness of the newly introduced equipment in the next phase of the project.

The Rotary Club of Kuching Central, meanwhile, is responsible for facilitating the project including sourcing vendors, purchasing, and delivery of equipment.

The club has also donated storage cabinets for the STEM labs equipment to the three schools, alongside an RM20,000 grant for the purchase of the items.

The fund was sponsored by T&J Engineering Sdn Bhd, a fully owned subsidiary of Hextar Capital Bhd.
