KUCHING, 6 Oct: Kuching now has about 13,000 hotel rooms to accommodate the increase in visitor arrivals especially ahead of the co-hosting of SEA Games 2027.

Sarawak Premier, Datuk Tinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the total amount is the total capacity of living rooms in the city so far.

"The total number of hotel rooms in Kuching at this time is about 13,000 rooms. For the latest and more detailed figures, the matter can be referred to the Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts of Sarawak, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah", he said.

He said this when he was met by the media after completing The Everly Lhesson Kuching's inaugural ceremony, here today.

According to Brother Johari, the demand for accommodation is expected to increase as Sarawak receives thousands of athletes, officials and visitors for next year's SEA Games.

"Imagine thousands of athletes and officials coming here. They will be spending and of course they will need comfortable accommodation", he said.

He also stressed that the comfort of visitors should be given priority throughout the course of the tour.

He said the demand for hotel rooms is expected to continue to rise after the 2027 SEA Games following the hosting of several international events in Sarawak.

"Following the SEA Games 2027, we will host the World Water Congress in 2028 and then there will be the theme of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Many events will take place in Sarawak", he said.

In this regard, he said the addition of new hotels is important to strengthen Kuching's accommodation capacity, not only to meet the needs of SEA Games 2027, but also support the growth of the city as a major destination for international sporting events, conferences and business.
