The suspect is arrested by the police during a raid at Jalan Mukah-Selangau, Selangau around noon yesterday.
MUKAH (Feb 24): Police arrested a 32-year-old local man on suspicion of drug abuse and possession during a raid at Jalan Mukah-Selangau, Selangau around noon yesterday.
Mukah district police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said a team from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (NCID) of Mukah district police headquarters detained the suspect while he was inside a vehicle parked in front of a vacant house along the road.
“Upon inspection, the team found a transparent straw tube containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine or syabu. The estimated gross weight of the seized drugs was 0.15g,” he said in a statement today.
Muhamad Rizal said the suspect, a labourer, was taken to the Mukah police headquarters for further action.
“A urine test conducted on the suspect returned positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine,” he added.
He said the suspect has been remanded for three days until Feb 27 under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code to facilitate investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Muhamad Rizal added that police will continue to intensify efforts to curb drug abuse and trafficking in the district.
