KUCHING (Dec 10): A total of 71 undocumented immigrants were detained in a large-scale operation by the Sarawak Immigration Department across multiple locations here on Dec 9 and 10.
The two-day operation, involving 31 enforcement officers, targeted residential and business premises in Muara Tuang, Matang Jaya, Kota Sentosa, and Taman Berjaya at Batu 4.
Raids began in the early hours of Dec 9 and concluded around 6am the following day.
The department said those detained were found committing various offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63, following thorough inspections of the identified premises.
The department said the operation reflects its continued commitment to curbing the presence of illegal immigrants and ensuring full compliance with immigration regulations.
“Enforcement efforts will be intensified to address activities involving undocumented individuals,” it said in a statement.
The department also reminded employers and premise owners to adhere strictly to procedures for hiring foreign workers, while urging the public to channel any information on the presence of illegal immigrants to assist ongoing enforcement efforts.
