MIRI (April 3): The upcoming Integrated Administrative Centre (IAC) in Lawas is expected to strengthen government service delivery and support more structured urban development in the district, said Datuk Gerawat Gala.

The Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) said once completed, the centre will serve as a centralised administrative hub housing multiple government departments and agencies in a single location.

“Through this approach, the public will no longer need to visit separate offices, but will be able to access various government services more easily, quickly and systematically under one roof,” he said in a statement following a project site monitoring visit on Wednesday.

Gerawat said the initiative marks an important step towards improving efficiency in public service delivery in Lawas, in line with the state government’s efforts to modernise infrastructure and provide a more conducive working environment for civil servants.

He added that in the long term, the IAC is expected to serve as a catalyst for more organised urban development while also supporting local economic development.

He stressed that the monitoring visit was essential to ensure development plans are properly implemented, meet objectives and deliver direct benefits to the people.

“The Sarawak government remains committed to strengthening infrastructure and public facilities across the state, including in northern regions such as Lawas, to ensure balanced and inclusive development,” he said.

Also present during the visit were Lawas MP Henry Sum Agong, Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA) regional director Datu Ubaidillah Abdul Latip, and Social Impact Management Unit (SIMU) director Sapiah Daud.
