KUCHING, Oct 2: The Lions Club of Kuching City is aiming to raise RM40,000 through its upcoming Charity Golf Tournament 2026: “Swing for a Cause”, to support humanitarian and community service projects.
The tournament, scheduled for Oct 11 at Kelab Golf Sarawak (KGS), will bring together golfers, businesses and members of the public in support of the club’s community initiatives.
The organising committee briefed the Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian on the tournament during a courtesy visit at Wisma Bapa Malaysia today.
According to a statement, Sim commended the club’s community service efforts and called on the public and corporate sector to contribute towards the fundraising initiative.
Proceeds from the tournament will support projects aligned with the eight Lions Clubs International Global Causes, involving vision, hunger, diabetes, childhood cancer, the environment, youth, disaster relief and humanitarian efforts.
The club’s recent community initiative included a Go Bald fundraiser for the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS), which raised more than RM34,000.
Club president Hon Wi Sing and Lion Datu Dr Zulkifli Jantan were among 11 participants who shaved their heads in solidarity with children battling cancer.
The “Swing for a Cause” tournament will run from 6.30am to 2pm, with entry fees set at RM250 for KGS members and affiliates and RM300 for non-KGS members.
The event is held under the distinguished patronage of Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof.
Also present during the courtesy visit were organising chairperson Lion Datu Dr Zulkifli Jantan, co-organising chairperson and past president Vincent Tan, president Hon Wi Sing and Lion Baharuddin Mokhsen.
The Lions Club of Kuching City said the tournament reflects its commitment to turning community service into meaningful action, guided by the Lions motto, “We Serve”. – TVS
