KUCHING (Feb 23): Sarawak’s economy has recorded significant progress in recent years, with the state’s overall revenue doubling from RM6.5 billion in 2017 to approximately RM14 billion in 2024, said Batu Kitang assemblyman Datuk Lo Khere Chiang.
Lo, who is also chairman of the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Batu Kitang branch, said the increase reflects steady and sustained development across various sectors in the state.
He made these remarks during the SUPP Mile 10 sub-branch’s Chinese New Year dinner held here last Saturday.
While acknowledging the state’s continued development, Lo stressed the importance of ensuring that Sarawak’s resources are managed prudently so that the benefits of growth are effectively channelled to the people.
He noted that Sarawak has long valued multiculturalism and religious harmony, with its diverse communities not only practising mutual respect but also celebrating each other’s festivals together.
“This is one of the unique characteristics of Sarawak,” he emphasised.
Lo expressed hope that the Sarawak government would continue to promote education and implement people-friendly policies, while expanding development opportunities for the younger generation.
He added that sound and inclusive policies have also helped ease the financial burden on many families.
