Ezmir belts out the new single during the special showcase at AppleSeeds Studios, Jalan Satok.
KUCHING (Dec 10): Local indie band Brookes stages its long-awaited return with the release of a new single, ‘Menanti’ (Waiting).
According to the band’s frontman Ezmir Sadriq Suhardi, the disco-pop-rock number captures the struggle of choosing between chasing dreams and accepting reality.
“It reflects the doubt, the exhaustion, and the quiet courage that come with pursuing something that constantly brings pain.
“In the end, it’s about questioning the path ahead, battling inner conflicts, and finding the strength to step back when the heart can no longer carry the weight,” said the 27-year-old performer, who co-composed ‘Menanti’ with Denzel Martin Gustaf, Muhammad Arif Daniel Hamzah, Shaun Menon Ayu, Mohd Azib ‘Jibby’ Junih, and Nur Asri Bujang.
Produced by Farouk Kamil from AOK Records, the song’s lyrics were co-written by Ezmir, Heidi Abbyana Idris, and Jibby.
The band staged ‘Brookes: The Coronation – A Night of Crowns, Chaos, Live Music and Revelry’ at AppleSeeds Studios, Jalan Satok here last weekend, to mark the release of the new single.
The special showcase also included performances by Steff Fleur, Pablo!, and ‘Hey! Leave a Message’.
“We received encouraging feedback from many of our followers, who had earlier tuned in to our teaser and preview on social media.
“The response during ‘Brookes: The Coronation’ show was even more electrifying, where those attending danced to the upbeat sound of ‘Menanti’.
“It was truly exciting,” said Ezmir, the lead vocalist and one of the guitarists.
Other band members are lead guitarist Denzel, rhythm guitarist Muhammad Arif, bassist Shaun, and drummer Jibby.
Formed in late 2020, Brookes has carved a name for themselves in the local music scene with their dynamic fusion of indie, pop and funk genres.

Ezmir said after a hiatus of about one year and a half, the band returned ‘with renewed energy, a refreshed line-up, and a new sound reflecting its evolution’.
“This show isn’t just about the single – it’s about reintroducing who we are now,” he pointed out.
Brookes released their debut EP, ‘Modern Antics’, in 2023, which comprised six tracks that highlighted their sound as a whole, and also the individuality of each member.
Looking ahead, Ezmir expressed hope that Brookes would continue to resonate deeper with their fans.
“We also hope to enter collaboration with local film-makers and drama producers in making ‘Menanti’ an original soundtrack for a movie or a series.”
On touring, Ezmir said there were plans, set to begin with Kuala Lumpur and later, across Borneo.
“Releasing a full album is also on the cards.
“Pre-planning is done – we are now at the early stage of realising that plan.
“All updates will be posted on our social media platform,” he added.
