KUCHING, Dec 8: A local man, Muhammad Zamri Mohammad Safberi, 26, has been fined RM3,000 or is subject to a three-month jail term after admitting to disposing of stolen property — a gold ring that belonged to his grandmother.
The charge under Section 414 of the Penal Code was presented before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.
According to the charge, he intentionally disposed of the stolen property at a gold shop in Matang Jaya at around 10am on Nov 22.
If convicted, he could face imprisonment for up to seven years, a fine, or both..
According to the case details, on Dec 2, at around 9am, the complainant, a 65-year-old residing in Matang, discovered that two gold bracelets and a gold ring stored in a handbag placed on her living room bed were missing, presumably stolen.
The estimated loss suffered by the 65-year-old complainant amounted to approximately RM9,000.
A police report was filed by the complainant for further action, leading to the arrest of the accused on Dec 5.
Authorities also seized items from a gold shop, including a gold ring, a pair of gold earrings, and two purchase receipts.
Investigations revealed that the accused had disposed of the stolen gold ring belonging to the complainant by selling it to a gold shop on Nov 22. — DayakDaily
