SIBU: Residents of longhouses are advised to always be vigilant and not fall victim to scam syndicates.

Chairman of the Community and Development Committee of the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan, Kevin Lau, reminded longhouse residents to be cautious and not easily believe in any enticing offers on social media.

“When you see someone offering attractive offers, be it for jobs or anything else, you must be cautious. Always ask someone more experienced or refer to the authorities,” he said in his speech at the New Year Celebration 2024 at Rh Veronica Jabok last Saturday.

Lau, who is also the Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) Environment and Public Health Standing Committee chairman, said that the Sarawak government under the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and SUPP will continue to ensure unity in the state.

“Even though we live in a very peaceful country, Malaysia is going through a challenging political process. We can see that some states are facing racial and religious tensions. I am happy and feel fortunate because I am from Sarawak where we do not experience such tensions,” he said.

He said that his team would continue to closely monitor the clean water supply in the Bawang Assan area, including Pasai Siong.

“The water supply issue is not only a problem in Pasai Siong but also in Sungai Melanggan and Paradom. We have had a dialogue session with the Sibu Water Board. They have plans, but it will certainly take time,” he added.

He added that his team would continue to investigate this matter, and it is their goal to solve this problem for the benefit of all.
