MUKAH: A lorry driver was taken into custody after narcotics police found suspected drug paraphernalia in his bag, with a urine test later confirming drug use.
The 24-year-old foreign man was detained at around 1.30pm yesterday (Oct 11) in front of a palm oil processing factory along Jalan Dijih during ‘Ops Tapis Khas’.
Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said the team noticed the lorry being driven in a suspicious manner before stopping the driver for inspection.
“A search of the suspect’s sling bag uncovered items believed to be drug-related paraphernalia.
“However, no drugs or other prohibited substances were found in his possession.
“A urine screening later found the suspect positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine,” he said.
Preliminary investigations found that the suspect admitted to abusing drugs since mid-2026. The suspect also provided information about his alleged drug supply source, which police are now investigating.
The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for suspected drug use.
If convicted, the suspect faces a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment for up to two years, in addition to applicable supervision requirements.
He is currently held at Mukah police lock-up to assist with further investigations, including efforts to identify the source and network of the suspected drug supply.
Those with information on drug abuse or trafficking activities, can contact Mukah IPD hotline at 084-871222 or the nearest police station.
