Lundu man gets 10 years’ jail, 3 lashes for raping 11-year-old girl

KUCHING (May 24): The Sessions Court here today sentenced a 26-year-old man to 10 years in jail and three strokes of the rotan for raping an 11-year-old girl.

Judge Saiful Bahari Adzmi convicted the man on his own guilty plea to a charge under Section 376(2)(e)of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of between 10 and 30 years as well as caning.

The man committed the offence in Lundu around 2pm on May 11.

Based on the facts of the case, the girl’s father saw the unknown man at his house with his daughter.

When the father asked the man what he was doing at the house, the latter replied he was taking care of the girl before leaving on a motorcycle.

Dissatisfied with the man’s answer, he demanded the truth from his daughter, who admitted they had sexual intercourse in her bedroom.

The father immediately lodged a police report, which led to the man’s arrest.

The investigation found that the man had raped the child after chatting with her for 30 minutes.

Deputy public prosecutor Mohammad Fauzan Zamri handled the prosecution, while the man was unrepresented by legal counsel.
