KUCHING, 17 September: National Level Malaysia Day celebrations are being held in rotation in every state across Malaysia in the future.
Sarawak State Elder, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said the approach was important to allow Malaysia Day celebrations to be more fully celebrated by people in each state.
"The history and background of the 1963 Malaysian Agreement (MA63) should also be highlighted as part of the main complementary celebrations to provide a more comprehensive understanding to communities across the country about the history of Malaysia's formation.
"He believes that such an approach is capable of being an important vehicle in strengthening people's understanding of the country's history, thus fostering a stronger spirit of national unity among Malaysians regardless of race, religion, state or province", he quoted Astana Sarawak as saying via Facebook today.
He also hoped that the spirit and principles contained in MA63 will continue to be respected and translated through close cooperation between the Federal Government, Sarawak Government and Sabah Government.
He said that cooperation is essential to ensure balanced development, inclusive prosperity and the well-being of all people.
"Malaysia Day is not merely a historical record, but a reminder to all the people of the spirit of understanding, responsibility sharing and mutual respect that formed the basis for the formation of Malaysia on 16 September 1963", the statement added.
Thus, Tun Wan Junaidi renewed his aspiration for Malaysia Day to continue to be celebrated as a symbol of the unification of the regions that make up Malaysia as well as being the foundation for building a sovereign, secure, stable and prosperous country.
The aspiration was renewed in conjunction with the National Level Malaysia Day 2026 which took place at Borneo Kuching Convention Centre (BCCK), last night.
The "Malaysia MADANI: Welfare Enjoyed" event was also attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor.
