KUCHING, Dec 31: The tallest flagpole in Malaysia and Southeast Asia has been named ‘Ibu Pertiwi’, while the square near the iconic Fort Margherita where the 99-metre tall structure stands will be known as ‘Dataran Ibu Pertiwi’.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg revealed the names during the ‘2024 New Year Countdown Ceremony’ and the inauguration of the flagpole tonight at Kuching Waterfront here.

Abang Johari also disclosed Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros), Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS), and Shell as the three companies which contributed to the installation of the Sarawak flagpole.
