KUCHING, March 19: Malaysia will mark Hari Raya Aidilfitri on Saturday (March 21), the Keeper of the Ruler’s Seal Syed Danial Syed Ahmad announced this evening on behalf of the Rulers’ Conference.

The announcement follows the failure to sight the new moon of Syawal this evening, despite observations conducted at 29 locations across the country.

“With the consent of the rulers, I hereby declare that the date for Hari Raya Aidilfitri for all states in Malaysia has been set for Saturday, March 21,” he said in a televised broadcast.

Muslims in Malaysia began fasting for Ramadan on February 19.

Earlier, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had stated that Friday, March 20, would be an additional Hari Raya holiday if the celebration fell on a Saturday. — DayakDaily
