Man arrested in Kuching with 6.4kg of cannabis worth over RM25k

KUCHING (March 27): A 41-year-old local man has been arrested for alleged involvement in drug trafficking following a raid in Kampung Semariang Baru here on Thursday.

Kuching district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the suspect was detained at around 2.20pm, with the raiding team seizing drugs believed to be cannabis weighing 6.4 kilogrammes and estimated to be worth RM25,200.

“The suspect also tested positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine and THC.

“Further checks also revealed that the suspect has no previous criminal record,” he said in a statement on Friday.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment, as well as no fewer than 12 strokes of the cane, if convicted.

The suspect has been remanded for seven days to assist in the investigation.
