KUCHING (Dec 4): A 57-year-old man was rescued safely without any injuries after falling into Sungai Sarawak at the wharf at Jalan Blacksmith this afternoon.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said they received an emergency call at 4.19pm, and a team from the Padungan fire station arrived just two minutes later.

“Operation commander reported that an adult male victim was in the river.

“Rescue personnel entered the water, secured the victim with a Personal Flotation Devices (PFD), and lifted him using a rescue rope,” Bomba said in a statement.

The victim was safely brought to shore, where the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit examined him and confirmed he had not sustained any injuries.

“Once the situation was safe and under control, the team returned to the station,” it added.

The rescue operation concluded at 4.50pm.
