KUCHING: The Magistrates’ Court here sentenced a man to six months in prison for injuring his younger sister at their residence on Jan 13.
Amierul Hanasaffizan Kaha, 32, pleaded guilty to a charge framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A of the same Code, which carries up to one year imprisonment or up to RM2,000 fine or both, upon conviction.
Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan ordered the accused to serve the prison sentence effective from today (Jan 22).
Amierul committed the offence against his 15-year-old sister at their residence in Taman Dahlia, Matang at around 8.17pm on Jan 13.
According to the facts of the case, at the time of the incident, Amierul entered his sister’s bedroom and harassed her by pushing her several times, despite her pleas to stop.
The sister then shouted for their mother’s help and when their mother entered the room, Amierul pulled his sister’s hair, kicked her in the back and threw stuff around the room as well as slamming the wardrobe door.
The mother intervened and shielded her daughter from further harm.
Subsequently, the sister was taken to the hospital where a medical report confirmed that she suffered injuries on her back and forehead.
A police report was filed and it led to Amierul’s arrest. Investigations found that he had acted aggressively by pulling his sister’s hair, kicking her back and punching her in the forehead.
Insp Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted the case while Amierul was not represented by legal counsel.
