SIBU (Sept 12): A 35-year-old man today lodged a police report after he lost RM3,460 to a phishing scam.
According to the victim, he received a text message from an unknown number on Sept 10 at his house around 9.30pm, telling him that he had won a RM2,000 cash prize for being a long-term subscriber of the telecommunication service.
He was asked to provide his bank account for the purpose of receiving the prize.
He was also provided with a link and was told to fill in all his banking information, including providing the OTP (one-time password).
Around 12.30am later, he logged into his bank account online and discovered that RM3,460 was missing via four transactions.
It recorded RM460 was transferred to an individual account and the remaining RM3,000 was transferred to a Bigpay Malaysia account.
Realizing that he had been duped, he then lodged the police report.
