SRI AMAN, 4 Oct: The public managed to extinguish the fire using two units of dry-dust fire extinguishers before the firemen arrived at Long House No. 3, Lachau Jinggau Village, here last night.
The fire, which broke out around 5:12 p.m., is believed to have been caused by a short circuit on the electrical wiring at the top floor of the long house.
According to the Operations Movement Centre (PGO) of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Sarawak, Sri Aman Fire and Rescue Police (BBP) arrived at the scene at 5.49 pm and found that the fire had been extinguished successfully.
"The estimated burns involved about one percent of the two-foot by three-foot area.
"PKO then carried out inspections and monitoring to ensure there were no more causes or hazards of fire at the site", according to the statement.
The operation was controlled at 5:55 p.m. and terminated at 6:30 p.m. after the condition was confirmed to be safe.
No casualties were reported in the incident.
The operation was accompanied by eight Sri Aman BBP members with an FRT machine and an EMRS, in addition to the assistance of four Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) members.
