KUCHING, Oct 5: The Sarawak government will support the construction of a new headquarters for the Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Chamber (DUBS), which Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg says should reflect the chamber’s growing stature and the businesses it represents.
The headquarters, planned near the Dayak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) building, will mark a new chapter for DUBS as it enters its fourth decade.
“The chamber must have an impressive headquarters that reflects its true quality and standing,” he said during the Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Chamber (DUBS) 40th anniversary gala dinner here on Sunday (Oct 4).
However, he stressed that the new headquarters must be matched by a more forward-looking approach among Bumiputera entrepreneurs as Sarawak’s economy shifts towards higher-value industries.
“It is important for DUBS to identify these emerging opportunities and nurture new ventures for its members.
“To capitalise on this expanding market, you must master modern technology, understand market demands and position yourselves strategically for Sarawak’s economic future,” he said.
The Premier identified Sarawak’s competitive advantage in clean energy as a key draw for foreign direct investment, which could generate higher-paying jobs and create opportunities for local businesses to participate in emerging supply chains.
“Energy is the key driver. Energy-intensive industries will naturally gravitate towards regions that offer sustainable power at competitive rates,” he added.
In agriculture, Abang Johari urged entrepreneurs to move beyond traditional practices by adopting technologies such as robotics, drones and the Internet of Things (IoT) to improve productivity and commercial returns.
He said DUBS, established in 1986, had an important role to play in helping its members identify new opportunities and adapt their businesses to Sarawak’s changing economic landscape.
He said the chamber should not only represent Bumiputera businesses but also help position them to participate in the State’s next phase of economic growth. — DayakDaily
