KUCHNG, May 6: A 35-year-old man was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court here today after pleading guilty to assaulting his wife in a dispute that escalated following a mobile phone game.
Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan meted out the sentence on the accussed, who was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A.
The offence was committed against his 33-year-old wife at about 11pm on March 20, 2026, at their home in Kampung Tanjung Bako.
Based on the case facts, the accused assaulted the victim by striking her right eye twice, causing pain and injuries to her face.
She later sought treatment at Sarawak General Hospital, where medical examination confirmed her injuries.
Investigations showed the incident occurred during a verbal argument between the couple. The situation escalated after the accused became angry upon losing a game on his smartphone while he was asked to look after their child as the victim was occupied with household chores. — DayakDaily
