MIRI (Dec 8): A 31-year-old man was killed after a drilling rig toppled onto his vehicle near Kampung Peruan, Jalan Long Tuma in Lawas on Sunday.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said it received a distress call at 4.55pm, and firefighters from Bomba Lawas were immediately dispatched to the scene, located about eight kilometres from the station.
“Upon arrival, the firefighters found that a piling machine (drilling rig) had crushed a four-wheel-drive vehicle, with the driver still trapped inside,” the department said in a statement.
Firefighters then carried out extrication work using specialised road traffic accident (RTA) equipment to remove the victim.
He was pronounced dead at the scene and later handed over to the police for further action.
The operation ended at 6.45pm.
