KUCHING, May 10: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) moved quickly to secure public safety after a sinkhole was reported along Jalan Stampin Tengah yesterday evening.

At about 6.30pm, MBKS received a public alert on the incident and immediately dispatched its team to the site.

“Upon receiving the report, temporary safety measures were immediately carried out at the site, including the placement of safety tapes and a traffic cone to alert road users and ensure public safety,” it said in a statement today.

The council further said repair and rectification works will be carried out on Monday to fully restore the affected road.

Kuching South Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng thanked the member of the public who reported the incident without delay, saying such civic-minded action helps ensure faster response and better public safety.

“Public cooperation and timely information shared by the community are important in helping MBKS respond quickly to issues affecting public safety and well-being. Such cooperation reflects the caring spirit of the people of Kuching South,” he reportedly said.

Wee added that MBKS remains committed to ensuring a safe, clean and well-maintained city through continuous monitoring, rapid response and strong community partnership. — DayakDaily
